变电所的所址应符合下列要求：
1.接近负荷中心
选择比较接近负荷中心的位里作为变电所的所址，以便减少电网的投资和损耗。
2.电源布局合理
使地区电源和变电所布局分散，既可以减少二次网的投资和损耗，又能达到安全供电的目的。
3．进出线方便
应考虑各级电压出线的走廊，使送电线交叉跨越少，转角少。
4.所区地形、地貌及面积应满足发展的要求
在所址选择时，要贯彻节约用地、不占或少占农田。
5.所址不被洪水淹没及冲刷，且地质条件应适宜如下条件
1) 110—500kV变电所的标高在100年一遇水位以上，35kV变电所的标高在50年一遇水位以上，否则应设防护。
2)所址应避开断层、滑坡、塌陷区、溶洞等地带和有矿藏的地区，若无法避免时，应征得有关部门的同意。
6.确定所址时.应考虑与邻近设施的影响
飞机场、导航台、收发信台、地震台、铁路信号等设施，对无线电子扰有一定的要求，所以距离要满足有关规定要求。
所址附近不应有火药库、弹药库、打靶场等设施。当所址附近工厂排出腐蚀性气体时，布置时应避开有害气体。

选所时，还要考虑施工用水、施工用电、施工场地、劳动力、当地建筑材料（沙、石、砖、瓦等)来源方便等问题。
