运行中的安全防护措施主要有两个方面:一是在正常运行情况下，严格控制工作场所空气中SF6及其分解产物的浓度;二是在事故情况下，做好呼吸系统及皮肤的防护。具体防护措施如下。
1) GIT安装室和主控间应做气密性隔离，以防泄漏出来的SF6气体扩散进入主控室。
2) GIT安装室应装设通风设备.出风口应设里在接近室内地面处。
3)工作人员进入电缆沟或低凹区城工作时，应特别小心，以防缺氧窒息。在GIT的压力释放装置附近亦不应久留.以防压力释放装置突然动作时，大量的SF6气体喷射造成窒息或中毒。
4)运行中SF6气体含水量测试及回收SF6气体等情况下.需要排如大气的废气应通过小苏打溶液后排至室外。
5)气体采样操作及处理一般渗漏时，要在通风条件下戴防毒面具进行。当GIT发生故降造成大量SF6外逸时，应立即撤离现场，并开启室内通风装置，事故发生后4h内，任何人进如室内必须穿防护服，戴手套、护目眼镜和佩戴氧气呼吸器。
6)下列物品应做有毒废物处理。如吸尘器的过滤纸袋、擦布、防毒困具中的吸附剂, GIT及SF6气体回收装置中使用过的活性氧化铝、分子帅、苏打粉等，严重污染的防护服也应视为有毒联系人：陈经理废物。
