进、排气管的作用是将新鲜空气分别送到机各个气缸并导出各缸的废气，使之经排气消声器排除。进、排气管通常用铸铁制成。进、排气管应具有较小的流通阻力，以减少吸气和排气损失，并应尽可能地将进气均匀的分配道各气缸中。增压机在进气管上安装有空气阻力指示器（空滤堵塞报警器），当空滤器堵塞到一定程度时，提示对空滤器滤芯进行保养或更换。该指示器有机械式、真空感应式两种形式。当滤芯被灰尘和油污阻塞时，机械式阻力指示器窗口中的红色标记逐渐升高，更换或装回滤芯后，按下复位按钮使指示器复原。真空感应式阻力指示器实际上是一个压力开关，自然吸气式机在额定转速时，当进气真空达到5±0.5kPa时，报警器会提示保养滤芯，因此可将指示器接头放在口里吸气以试验该装置好坏。涡轮增压式机在满负荷为进气真空度不得超过6.1kPa。要十分注意空滤器出口至机进气口管路的密封性，一旦密封不严，脏空气就会吸入机，空滤器也就失去了作用。因此，在保养空滤器时，应检查这一管路的可靠密封，及胶管有无老化破裂，教官与钢管连接处的卡箍是否失效或振动，有问题应及时更换或拧紧。机使用的是“动脉式”排气歧管并带有一个由多段组成的涡轮增压入口管段（排气歧管出口），6BT机脉冲式废气涡轮霍尔塞特涡轮增压器（Holset ）的管路。6BT机各缸工作运行顺序为1-5-3-6-2-4，将1、2、3缸的排气道和4、5、6缸排气道分别连接在两根排气歧管上，再分别引入涡轮机壳上的两条进气道，这样，各缸排气互不干扰，可以充分利用废气的脉冲能量，并能利用压力高峰后的瞬时真空，一粒与排气门关闭时的扫气，也可防止某缸排气压力波高峰倒流到正在吸气的另一缸中去。为了使零件具有一致性，自然吸气式机使用了相同的排气歧管。排气管末端装有消声器，用来减小排气时的响声和消除废气中的火星。因为压力较高的废气在排入大气时，会产生强烈的排气噪声。典型的排气消声器的工作运行原理为：当废气经过消声器时，会多次穿过其中的小孔，改变方向，得到膨胀和冷却，结果废气压力和温度都得到降低，振动减轻，排气噪声显著变小。
